Gerbera daisy

Redondo Beach, CA(Zone 10)

Bought a gerbera daisy at the nursery yesterday on impulse. Does anyone have advice for cultivation? Are they hard to grow? Do they do well in pots or indoors under lights, or is this strictly an outdoors plant?
Thanks,

I would guess that it will do OK for you outside in the ground. They are a species from South Africa. I have tried them many time but have failed. what I will be trying next year is growing them from seed.

I planted mine from seed and kept under lights in my basement and then in a sunny window until the weather warmed up. Put some together in a planter and I kept some in pots so I could bring them in before first frost. They seem to like filtered sun and partial shade. Don't let them dry out and don't let them stay too soggy.
I was told that they won't bloom the first year, but one of mine is ready to blossom!!!
