It's late here (2:30am) and very quiet outside so I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard voices, no, they weren't in my head!

I located the voices as coming from my computer speakers. Has my being online picked up a telephone/internet conversation. Both participants were American. Incidently, I turned off my speakers to allow the speakers their privacy. How can I prevent this while still being able to have my speakers turned on?
