Alaska Aquilegia formosa

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

The wild columbine are in full bloom now. They live along the roadsides, woodland perimeters, and there are several in my yard. They tend to self-seed all over the beds. This one is particularly large, or perhaps it has crossed with one of the McKanas.

Yes they are promiscuous little people aren't they? Our native columbine are blue. I took some photos of a friend's plants in flower, i'll see if i can find them.

Yours are very handsome

They are not usually as large as this plant or flower, but charming, never-the-less. I like the way they arch their stems before bowing down in bloom. I'd love to see some of your native aquilegia.
