Here's a photo of some of our local Lady Ferns, AKA: Athyrium eilix-femina. They transplant well into the yard, and can become quite tall.
Lady Ferns In Alaska
Beautiful - I love ferns!
I love ferns, too. They take up so much bed space that I've been tempted to move some of mine, but by the time they are up and running, they are just too beautiful to tamper with. I've started pinching out the big fronds that overshadow other plants, and that seems to work just fine. This spring, a bull moose trimmed some of mine for me... I wasn't pleased!
Aren't they just what you need for the shade? There are so many varieties and each one is as beautiful as the next.
They sure are, haighr.
