new hydrangeas

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

i was checking out wayside gardens and they have some new hydrangeas. the one i'm most interested in, because i'm zone 5-9 is Peggy Mac. It has 2 blooming seasons here in zone 5, so if a frost gets it you still get blooms on the second go round and they are the big macrophyllia 10" blue ones. http://www.waysidegardens.com/webapp/commerce/command/ExecMacro/psProduct2.d2w/report?&itemnum=46184

The other is Harmony and Oakleaf. Also good in the colder region, is twice the size of Snowballs white connical flowers. This grows to 10-12 feet in 8 years in part or filtered shade. Awesome. http://www.waysidegardens.com/webapp/commerce/command/ExecMacro/psProduct2.d2w/report?UNID=16609:54:03.308&itemnum=46126

There is also a yellow leafed with rose colored flowers for zone 6-9. Sun Goddess is a mac and they don't even bother to show the flower in the picture they show the 5-7" yellow leaves. :) I can't grow this one but here is the link.

Frau Reiker is the first ever picotee edged lacecap. it is pink with white edges. zone 6-9 check it out at

the last new one is Kardinal. It is a lace cap that is pink and blue, at the same time. and then changes colors, the leaves start out green and then get a maroon edge. sounds so intriguing to watch. zone 6-9, another not for me but here is the link for you lace cap lovers.

Karidnal and Sun Goddess are on sale now. I personally find wayside to have expensive prices, but they do have some gorgeous things. i'm thinking about getting the Peggy Mac, i think its 24.95. that is an ouch when you add on the shipping, but they also have a clematis that i'd love to get too. Silver Moon that is for shade. So far the hydrangeas that i acquired from plantranch.com are doing better than the other two that i purchased from home depot and hydrangea.com. mostly because of frost, i believe.

check it out ladies and gents. enjoy. debi z
