Clematis Propagation?

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Hello to everyone :) I was wondering how Clematis typically propagates itself? Is it by seeds, cuttings, or another method? Thank you my gracious friends! Here is what I am growing and thinking about propagating...

Hey Morph!! Generally they are propogated by cuttings. But when and how depend on which one/what type you have. It is really pretty. I don't think I have seen one that dark! Wow!

Thanks, Michele :) I wasn't sure if they produced seeds or not. This may look darker than it truly is. It's a deep purple, but the light makes it look a lot darker I think.

I believe you can also ground layer them too.

Sorry, Tim. Ground Layering is a new term for me. Would you mind describing it just a tiny bit more?

You can pin a section to the ground and it will grow roots, rather than cut it off the plant first.
