Native ferns in my shade garden.

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

These were relocated from other areas of our property as well as from my dd & s-i-l's property.

Doris: I've brought several ferns into my lawn from the woods. We have fiddle ferns up here, and they get quite large. They'll grow in sun or shade around here.

That's what we call the ferns around here, because the new leaves are curled like the top of a fiddle neck. The curled leaves, or fiddleheads have been used as a stirfry dish for a long time up here, but I can't bear to cut them off.

I think our ferns are Lady Ferns, but I'm not sure. They get quite large... three feet or more high, and they have large, impressive leaves. We also have a wispy little fern that grows all over the wooded areas like a ground cover. Both are quite nice. I'll look into it and start a thread when I get more info.

Please do, I would love to hear more about them.
