1601..I did cut is back last fall. I cut back all my clematis . I didnt; know. thas why I want to find a name and number for them all. This one did well.
This looks like 'Ville de Lyon' to me, from the shape and colouring.
philomel...thats it. I went to my neighbors and thats what her tag said. but. half the name was gone. just the lyon was left. But. I never ordered one of those. guess J&P not only gave me dead ones. but wrong ones too. hers looks just like mine. so, thats the name. I have to look up to see if I prune it back like mentioned above. It did well this year. so. I am guessing yes.
This is vigorous to 4m. It flowers in 2 big crops.
Prune in Feb-March, and you can either prune as 2 or 3, depending on your preference - it will be fine with either.

Should do it naturally, but deadheading never hurts. Can always save seed from the second flush if you want to.
did you see my staman posting? And you or someone will have to let me know hw to gather the seeds.

Mings, either prune how i described for Marcel Moser, or cut back to I'd say about 1'. Anything between that and 1m is fine. What do you reckon 1601?
