According to internet measurement company NetValue, 550 million emails were sent and received by UK homes in January - nearly 300 million more items than the domestic amount of mail handled by the Post Office. So not a passing fad, then!
It also showed UK householders top the European league for monthly email use, sending a feverish 170 million more than the French, and a busy 185 million more than the Germans.
