I thought of the rhyme today when I saw baby rooks sitting on the edge of their nests and on branches this afternoon. They are called 'Branchers' at this stage and used to be shot for food back in the day and ye olde dayes. They are supposed to be good eating at this stage of their lives. The song 'Sing a Song of Sixpence' is about a pie made from Rooks.
