I grew 2 of these last year from seed. They sprouted fast and grew nicely. They went dormant for winter and now they have started to grow again. Here is the bigger one.. I hope I can plant this outside when it gets older.
Kentucky Coffeetree - Gymnocladus dioica
Evert, they are listed as hardy to USDA zone 3, which includes temperatures as low as -40 Fahrenheit - I would think once it's established it should be hardy for you :) (Nice shot of a seedling; you might want to put it in the Plants Database, too :)
My friend told she had one for a few years.. it didn't grow very well. But I will try my self and put it to a warm place. These kind of exotic trees from warmer areas are 'in' here right now, like Cercis canadensis, Ginkgo, Liquidambar, Cornus mas/florida/kousa.. :) Will put it to database soon.
