Question about poppyseeds n birds?

Lorain, OH(Zone 5b)

I have about 3/4cup of leftover poppyseeds, after I finished making poppyseed rolls for Easter. They are dry, I do not buy the premixed filling. I was thinking about adding them to my suet cakes or just mixing them into the birdseed mix, as I really do not care for them. Do you think that this will be okay, they won't do any harm to the birds will they? ***OR*** Does anyone know if maybe I could get them to germinate? I could then add them to a prairie flower mix that I'm putting together for my sister. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Michele, they might germinate. Sometimes they have been heat treated before packing and this stops them from germinating, sometimes they haven't. I would add them to the mix, and if they don't come up, at least the field critters can eat them.
