need gourd info

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

I have several different kinds of gourds I want to plant this year. Do I need to space them apart from each other and if so how far. I have only grown gourds once bewfore and then only the birdhouse ones. I planted them too close to my cucumbers and when I made pickles those were the worse tasting things you ever tasted. So bitter. So I know not to plant them near my veggie garden.

jcf...I would feel safe planting different kinds of gourds together. More than likely you will end up with the true gourd, but perhaps next yr the seed from some of them may begat "weirdos". At the very worse you may even create a new type of gourd! I'm with you tho, don't plant them next to your food curcubits. I planted some bushel gourds next to tomatoes and basil last yr and felt safe with that...but your cukes could've been affected somehow, just not definitely sure. (I know bitter cukes can also be the result of poor growing conditions tho...too hot, too dry, etc).
Gonna post something for your eyes...stay tuned.

This is good info on growing gourds....but it doesn't tell you to clip the 2 bottom edges of the seed...don't clip through the seed covering though....and to soak it for about a day. Jo
