Mary_Mi, remember this?

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Having a difficult time getting warm during these record breaking cold nights, I was reminded of something I bet few others here will remember. My mother used to heat bricks in the fireplace and wrap them in a heavy feed sack to put under the covers near our feet. We would stand in front of the fireplace while she warmed a small blanket for each of us, and when she wrapped it around us, we would run and jump into the bed and stick our heads under the covers. The bedrooms were never heated, only the "fireplace" room and kitchen. Of course, during the night the large back log would burn down, and only coals were left by morning. The bricks were cold, the air was frigid, and we snuggled together like four puppies.
