I just ordered a bunch of Clematis. I plan to put some of them near shrubs for support. Which side of the shrub is the best for them? I have ordered the following varieties, any advice is welcome. I also have a trellis built around my front door, which is on the north side. I have read that this is a possible site for clematis, is this correct?

Most clematis like full sun with shade on their root system, there are a few that can tolerate some shade.

Ditto for the info! I printed out alot of it. I am writting my own "Garden Book" scrapbook style on all of the varieties in my garden, and there are wonderful pictures of some of my varieties along with a brief description, and which pruning category it fits into. I should have no excuse not to do the right thing by these guys, should I?? L
