bay tree, any information

Mansfield, MO(Zone 6a)

This will show my total ignorance, but here goes. I was wondering if it is possible to grow a bay tree. The kind that we use the leaves in cooking. (No, I don't even know how many types there are. : )) I know I could not grow it outside, but how about inside under lights? How big do they get? Can they be bonsai'd? Where could I order one? I would appreciate any help.

Sue,

I was given one in may for my birthday. I kept it in a room with not much sun and it started looking, well should we say sick after a couple of months. I read up on it and it said to put in window with lot's of sun and water sparingly over the winter. Well it has been there for about a month now, and looks like a totally different plant. It has grown atleast 6" and has so many new leaves it is awsome. See your not the only one that can show total ignorance. Good luck, I use my leaves all the time in cooking, and making bay seasoning for ribs.

I am so glad it is doing good. That is what I want to do with one! Thanks for the input. Now I know I won't get one and kill it in a day. : )
