Planters from old tires

I was wondering if anyone knows how to make planters from old tires. I remember seeing them everywhere when I was younger, but don't see them any more. I know I probably wont find directions in the new flower magazines, theyre not IN.......but kind of nostalgic. I think they are turned outside or something, and cut so they look like petals. Any body know what I mean? L
