Wanted:Blue Berry Seeds
Jianhua, I can get you them next summer... the forests are full of them here.
Evert:
Thanks in advance.
Here is some info about Blueberries.
A deciduous shrub,native to N America,
and cultivated for fruit;flowers bell-shaped;
berry blue-black,edible.c.20 American species.
Wonder what species yours belongs to.
In the southern US, we call them huckleberries. The wild ones are much smaller and less juicy than the ones grown commercially, but often have a more pronounced tartness. We use them for making jelly.
Jianhua.. I don't know are you wanting the big blue berries which grow in N-America - or bilberry? The one which we call here blueberry - bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus)
Aimee:
Thanks for the info.
Huckleberies,wild or cultivated,both are wanted.
Anyone who owns the seeds, emails me.we can have the
trade by means of
seed for seed,(little)gift for seed ,or sase.
Evert,
I want to get the big blueberry which is native to north America(tree berry for fruit).
Jianhua, I have some cultivated blueberries in my fridge now, I think they might have been grown in Chile. I can dry some of those, although I don't know if they will have viable seeds. My limestone alkaline soil will not support the blueberries we call huckleberries, but my sister lives in Louisiana and has them in her woods, where the soil is very acid. I doubt that she has any seed saved, as there would be no reason for her to collect them when they are everywhere. I can ask her to save you some when they produce in the spring and summer. This is no problem for her, although I don't know if we will still be able to mail seeds by that time. I will be happy to send what I have now, and hope they make it. I still haven't mailed your stamps, so they will be included if you wish. Might need to be dried more when you receive them, as I want to get them sent before the new postal conditions make it more difficult. Wantabegardener sent me your address, printed out so I can attach it to the envelope, so I am finally able to send your things as promised.
I just looked in one of my books, and it appears the plant I know might be Gaylussacia, closely related to Vaccinium. The name was in honor of a French chemist of the late 18th-early 19th century, named Gay-Lussac. The ones of the Louisiana forests are deciduous, usually about 3' with small leaves but can reach 10'. They are often found growing in patches under tall pines or other trees, or on disturbed land, even along rural roadsides. Although I was around them all my childhood and picked the berries every year, I don't remember what the blooms looked like, so they must be extremely inconspicuous. The seeds are larger than the ones I buy in the store.
Jianhua.. are you interested in medicinal plants..? Because the bilberry really is. It has been used for diabetes, stomach ache, and other...
Here is photos of it:

I think it would make a nice bonsai. LOL :)
We have also another berrie, similar to bilberry - Juolukka (Vaccinium uliginosum). It grows on swamps.
