I bought some neon tetras some years ago and one by one they died ... all except one. He seemed quite happy being only one of his species in the tank and as I've been running the tank down to start afresh I didn't buy any more. I always felt a little bad because they are schooling fish and I felt he was perhaps a little lonely.
Yesterday, I gave in and bought 3 baby neons, big neon made a bee line for them as soon as they were out of the bag. I never thought I would be able to tell if a fish was happy or not but I swear he hasn't stopped smiling since his new pals have joined him.
