Tree ID
I assume everyone is as baffled as me to the id of this tree?
Not baffled; just not visiting here much these days.
That's a Viburnum, one of the Viburnum opulus clan. I think it may be known as Guelder-rose in the UK; Cranberrybush Viburnum here in the US.
Opposite arrangement of three-lobed simple leaves, some obvious glands on the leaf petioles - fits the group.
What I learned as three separate species...
**Viburnum opulus - European Cranberrybush Viburnum
**Viburnum trilobum - American Cranberrybush Viburnum
**Viburnum sargentii - Sargent Viburnum
...are now generally grouped as circumglobal variations of Viburnum opulus.
I'm more of a splitter than a lumper, so I like to still call them by names that I learned originally. Depending on where you procured this plant, I'd suspect it is the species most local to the UK.
Viburnum opulus as a species has the "lace cap" style flowers. The cultivated selection 'Roseum' has "snowball" style flowers.
