It looks like a nymph of a true bug (Hemiptera) - can you try to get a photo from directly over it? The angle from which your image was taken makes it difficult to see diagnostic features.

Thanks, Flap. The id was a request from a friend. I'll see if he can find it again. Thought maybe it was a nymph that you would recognize.

I thought so too considering it is the season (following Japanese beetles which come along with but after the onslaught of Mexican bean beetles). It looked a bit more elongated.
