Need Advice On Computers

We are hoping to buy another computer after the holidays and I need help.
I would love to get away from the Windows programs altogether but I don't have a clue where to look for one that doesn't have Windows preinstalled. Any help that you can give would be appreciated, now keep in mind that I am not a computer wiz.
