CLOSED: ID for this moth

bournemouth, United Kingdom

I realise there are thousands of different moths but just wondered if someone can ID this one. Seen in Dorset today, it was about 2-3cms from wing tip to wing tip.

It's in the family Geometridae. As I'm sure you're aware, this is quite a large family in which there are several assemblages of species having quite similar markings. That aside, i would consider this a possibility: https://britishlepidoptera.weebly.com/016-idaea-aversata-riband-wave.html

Thanks, yes that looks really good. And it's actually in my Insects Book but somehow I missed it although I spotted a Common Wave. Similar but not right!

Glad that worked. One of the limitations of guide books such as yours is that they usually do not show the degree of individual variability that can occur within many species.
