overgrown rabbits foot fern

I do not have a photo, but i have a 30 year old overgrown fern, roots covering the whole pot and hanging down. Macramé hanger broke, now what? must i repot? how to hang when whole pot is covered up with a dense layer of roots

It would be nice to find the pot to attach a hanger to. You might try a wire basket big enough to house the fern in and let the rhizomes eventually cover the wire basket. Or put it on a pedestal with an appropriate saucer for it to sit on?

I'm thinking of my staghorn fern - maybe 30 years old too which covered its wire basket years ago and eventually became too big and heavy for the wire hangers to support it. I now put it in a tray or a very large bowl to keep it going.
