Hole in trunk of young tree should I fill it?

Long Beach, WA(Zone 8b)

My young persimmon tree has a hole in the lower trunk. The tree is healthy but it is not producing just yet. Should I fill in the hole? If so with what?

You should not do anything to your tree, in that regard. The tree is forming callus wood to close this wound, likely the point at which the understock was pruned off for your grafted persimmon.

Given normal nutrition and decent growing conditions, that opening should be closed over by the end of this growing season or next.

Thank You that is what I wanted to know.
