Any one have an idea what this plant is long thick green leaves spout from the plant which then die off and then it flowers at regular intervals through out the year, then goes dormant and the cycle starts all over again the flower is bright red or orange, inherited the plant and really would like to identify

Possibly Haemanthus coccineus
I agree. A South African bulb called "blood lily" as its common name.
Lucky you to have this and soon you will have a huge pot of them!
