SOLVED: Found in a Garden in SanFrancisco

Pikesville, MD(Zone 7a)

A near-blind friend who gardens saw this plant as he strolled in San Fran. Google told him it was a passionflower. I don't agree, but I have no other suggestions. He says it grows about 4-ft tall.

Looks like a mallow, a malva. There are a lot of them with similar looks.

Could be Malva nicaeensis. I can't really see your leaves but the leaves of Malva nicaeensis seem somewhat variable.

Thank you so much. My friend has glaucoma and loves to see flowers on his "good days." He will be thrilled to have this ID.

The flower looks so beautiful.

The ubiquitous plant labels "annual" that Lowe's and Home Depot stick in their plants aggravates the heck out of me!

Can anyone help me ID this plant? It was the only one left at Lowe's and the cashier didn't have a clue...
