Hi, I would like to confirm that this is tree in my backyard is a form of Privet (Lingustrum). I am getting a new puppy and have read that Privet is poisonous to dogs.
I am in northern California, USA.
Thank you!

I would agree with the identification of Ligustrum sp.
I am not aware of poisonous aspects of this plant. I would refer to veterinary expertise in that regard.
In any event it is only toxic if the puppy eats it. We have dogs and Ligustrum and none of the dogs have ever eaten the Ligustrum.
