North Florida Gardening - Advice Needed

Good morning! I recently moved from Central FL to North FL (Luraville/Live Oak area). I'm on 3 acres and have an area outside our fence that I'd like to plant some bushes/plants that have some color. Most of the plants I had in Central FL will not survive the cold temps we get here in N. FL. I'd like the bushes/plants to be low maintenance as we only plan on living here for about a year, but we will retain the property for future use. Any suggestions? Azaleas seem so grow well up here but they are only showy for a short time. I don't need a lot of color but would like some color, even if it is just different tones of green!
