This tree makes a swollen trunk, has little spines and goes dormant if winter lower than 55F. It has just come out of dormancy so the leaves are smaller than usual as they develop. Can anyone ID it please?

Hi springleaves:
You don't say where you are growing this plant, and/or whether it is from that part of the world. That may be helpful for others here to identify your plant at this stage of growth.

Hi ViburnumValley, thanks... I am in South Africa but I have no idea where the plant is from, I would expect it is not native to SA.
Reminds me of an Adenium sp.

I think I have solved it - Sesamothamnus lugardii - Transvaal Sesame Bush
