Anyone out there recognize this plant?
Need help in identifying it.
Currently growing in the Dominican republic, but plant is not from here.
SOLVED: Tropical mystery plant
Yes it is Calotropis procera. It is an African Asian milkweed that is naturalised throughout the tropics. I have seen it in Sahara, Brazil, Canary Islands and Cuba.
It is quite pretty which probably helps to explain it's wide range. Seeds are efficiently distributed by the winds. A good food source for Monarch butterflies and their larvae.
Wish I could grow one in UK but the winter would kill it I am sure.
Best wishes
Martyn
Thank you so much Martyn!
This plant has many uses, one of which I will utilize in the regeneration of the farm here in the DR. If you ever visit the Caribbean island look me up and I will provide you with as many starters as you can tuck away in your luggage!
Thank you again!
