CLOSED: Flying bug found in Garage

Kippens, Canada

This beetle freaked us out. It has little tiny babies on it's back? It was flying around us and had a big wingspan.

Located in Kippens, Newfoundland.

It's a sexton/burying beetle (family Silphidae) in the genus Nicrophorus, possibly N. sayi. Those are mites on its back; they are hitching a ride on the beetle (phoresy), hoping for a food source.

Kippens, Canada

I see... thank you sir!
