Aloe Problem?

Hello.
I went to trim back an overgrown clump of aloe (arborescens?) when I noticed these masses of..something..growing on the plant. Does anyone know what hey are and whether they're an indication of health issues for the plant?

Sevin works to control infestation. Need to use repeatedly. Will need to cut back plant to get rid of distorted growth.
