CLOSED: Help me identify a bug?

Antioch, CA

I'm afraid I don't have a picture of it, but it's similar in appearance to a lady bug, though slightly smaller in size and greenish-gray in color, snot-like, with black spots on its back. I've been finding them in my bedroom, which is no place for any insect. Please, if you recognize the description of this creeping critter even a little, let me know so I know how to combat it.

Does it look like this? If so, you may have a carpet beetle problem.

No, that's not it, but the general shape is similar. Thank you, though.

Finally managed to grab a picture of one of these creepy crawlies. I know it's not the best but it's the best my crappy camera phone could do. Hopefully this will help some helpful personage identify it. Thanks again to all who take the time to try.

That looks very much like a carpet beetle in the genus Anthrenus. See if you notice any critters resembling this one (the larval stage of the beetle) anywhere in the vicinity. http://bugeric.blogspot.com/2014/10/carpet-beetles-genus-anthrenus.html

I did not find any of the larval stage critters in the immediate vicinity, though to be fair, I did not conduct the most thorough of searches (moving furniture and emptying my admittedly stuffed closet, etc) Regardless, what is the best way to combat these bugs? Call an exterminator or do I simply need to rent a Rug Doctor and give my carpet a good going over?
