Y'know how some people fill glass hurricane shades with colored glass balls for the holidays? Well, my Mother gave me a footed compote (trifle bowl) when she was here for Thanksgiving, and suggested using glass balls in it for the Christmas table. Not having any solid colored glass balls, but having a lot of wooden ornaments like toy soldiers, angels, drums, etc., I decided to fill it with those. I am amazed at how homey/comfortable/reminiscent of holidays past it is.... certainly NOT Martha Stewart!
I will put greenery around the base for the table on Christmas... maybe even a few days before.
