This plant has been coming up in a shady spot of my flowerbed for the past 4-5 years, getting slightly bigger each year. My memory is horrible but I think I got this at a Roundup, thinking it was a Dutchman's Pipe. But it doesn't act like a vine so I'm perplexed. Does anyone recognize it?

I think what you have is Aristolochia serpentaria. A type of Pipevine, check the picture and look at the zigzag stem.

Thanks Josephine, that is what it looks like (Virginia Snakeroot). It grows really slowly, but every year it looks better. So I will continue to leave it be and hope it one day becomes a butterfly magnet. :-)

Good idea Carla.
