Fairly new plating at my daughters' high school. It's probably not an American Elm simply because of Dutch Elm Disease. Any tips would be helpful.

Clearer images would help. Agree that it does not have Elm characteristics.

I'm sniffing around Fagus grandifolia, with a whiff of Carpinus sp.

Deffo Carpinus; given the conic shape, my money would be on Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata', as that (rather boring!) cultivar dominates the commercial market for hornbeams.
