flowers getting eaten?

La Follette, TN

Hello all,

I have helped out some relatives with gardens before, but this year I decided to create my own small flower garden, Starting from seeds I sowed Sunflowers, morning glories and Zinnia. All appears well until the seedling is a few inches, then they all get munched down! I check frequently throughout the day and never see any insects on them. However, every morning when I go out to my front lawn, they all either appear to be shredded or have holes in them.
Any help would be appreciated!

Could be Slugs. They do most of their munching at night. They love Zinnias!

Those holes in the pic are too tiny and uniform to be slugs. More likely flea beetles. If the plant is far enough along, the holes won't kill it. Just an aesthetic issue at this point.

If the plant looks like it's failing, then a spray with some Neem Oil should get em. Also, a good blast from the water hose will displace them from the plant.
