Plant cuttings in potatoes?

Every now and again I see someone on Pinterest swear by sticking rose cuttings in potatoes to root them.
Has anyone tried this method as well, or knows someone who had success with it?

Tried it this winter,with a dozen cuttings,looks like maybe one will finally take root,tried 4 by just potting up in potting soil,all 4 made it,so next year come fall,will just use potting soil.But the good news is I got 12 potatoes growing!
