I made a photo of this bird thinking I knew what it was.
Looking at the picture on my laptop I was baffled. The field guide did not give me an answer. The blackish blue cap and back points at a Juv. african pygmy KF(Ceyx picta), yet the cap extends to the back of the head and is clearly barred. The white spot in the neck would suggest the white bellied KF(Alcedo leucogaster) but then there are no white spots on flanks chest or belly. Who can help me out?
What african kingfisher is this
Maybe a Malachite Kingfisher?
Whereabouts in Africa?
