RU Bird of Paradise

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

Here is a fabulous bonus for moving to FL. I got this Bird of Paradise at Debi_Z's round up back in 2005 or 2006. Swapped in some siberian iris. It has grown nice green leaves since that time but never a flower despite my garden window and it spending all summer out doors in MA. Put it in the ground at my new house here in the Orlando area and guess what it is doing? Blooming!! Slowly, creepingly slowly, but there are two buds on it. Thank you whoever brought this to the roundup!!

Glad that you are enjoying FL, Martha! Weather this summer in NE was just like FL....only no rain...at all....serious drought up here.....

Oh, that is a lovely side benefit to relocating!

Here it is folks! the long awaited Roundup Bird of Paradise flower. It bloomed this morning. Again, my thanks to whoever brought it to swap at the roundup.

And it is not a white BOP as originally advertised, but the red/orange variety.

Very nice bloom! My stepson had a white one in his yard in Sarasota.....it was about 20' tall!

Here is bloom #2! This survived the winds of Hurricane Matthew to finally open last week. Oh, my Carrie! Those were the days!
