Dahlias as an annual

I love my dahlias, whatever blooms I get, but I have decided they are a potted annual here. I did get beautiful blooms from one of the 3 in the pack from home depot, I didn't get the grocery store dahlias in dirt early enough, was busy with work and they sat on the porch. I have decided to buy some in april cheap next year, pot them and enjoy them. If they make it through the year great, and if not, repeat in 2018. Thank you all for your patience.
