How soon to fertilise a newly bought plant?

Hi guys
I bought a new Areca Palm from the garden centre about a week ago
I've got a Palm liquid fertiliser for it and was wondering how soon I should start using?
Some places it says to fertilise straight away and others say newly purchased plants have nutrients already in the soil and not to fertilise
Help please!
