Recently planted a Viburnum, came home from vacation to find many of the leaves turning black. Assume this could be water-related; too much or too little? Black does not rub off as suggested in the most commonly suggested black mold disease. Would appreciate some help in identifying the issue and solution. Thanks!
Black leaves on Viburnum
This isn't Black Sooty Mold caused by aphid. That much I know. Let's troubleshoot a little unless someone else recognizes the leaf damage more precisely.
Coming home from vacation, you would expect maybe damage from under watering but this looks more like disease started by overwatering. You say you recently planted it. How root bound was it out of the pot? Often plants coming from a nursery have some root rot going on. Is this plant sitting in water? Also, how are the canes? Are they cankered? If you cut into one, is the center black? Is the new growth black? And finally, I am assuming the leaves are still supple, not crispy?
