I have a large red tip that is dying ever so slowly either from disease or the encroachment of my neighbor's hardwood tree canopy or both. I know at some point I have to bite the bullet and cut it down but I'd like to put that off even if just for a couple of years.
Would it be ok to plant some sort of fast growing flowering vine to scramble among the mostly leafless branches of this red tip and provide some color? If so, what kind? It would get 6 - 8 hours of sun, maybe more. The soil is mostly clay and full of the red tip roots.
Use dying shrub/tree as support for vine???
