We are planning to plant a new, large flowering perennial / bulb garden this fall. I would like to incorporate some dwarf Dutch iris (6-10" tall) near the front edge - but I haven't had them for a while and can't recall whether the plant is attractive enough to be on the front line after blooming.
Feel free to share your favorite petite border plants. :-)

Dwarf Dutch Iris foliage after blooming
I have some regular height Dutch Iris scattered in my flower beds, I sure like the blooms in late spring. However, the foliage does look ratty as it goes dormant. I don't think I would put them in the front of the bed in a noticeable spot.
Hmm, spiky front-of-the-border plants?
Kniphofia, some are quite short, maybe not short enough.
Some other Iris, like Iris cristata 'Abbey's Violet' the foliage stays nicer.
Some short daylillies.
