CLOSED: More from Texas

More from the same place in Texas...
I know the flycatcher might be impossible. I didn't hear it make any sounds. I think either Great-crested or Ash-throated, but I don't know.

It looks like the first one is another of your Verdin. The last strikes me as an Ash-throated. I was going back and forth between the two species, but the bill seems overall black, but the bill of the Great Crested is lighter near the "face".

I will try to wrestle with the middle bird at a later time. :)

Thanks so much, Chilly! Young birds, wet birds. All very difficult. Will stay tuned.

This strikes me as another young bird, so will have bred in Texas. I was able to rule out a lot of sparrows that way. I wish I had searched for the Breeding Bird Atlas sooner to save me a little time of going through juvenile Song, Lincoln and other sparrows. :)

The markings that stick out to me are the black lines going from the bill, (Sub moustachial stripes... I had to look that up, I could not remember the name) and the barring on the tail. I keep looking at the Cassin's sparrow, but I cannot say with any certainty that this is the bird.

Because you've already waited so long for an answer already, do you know any local birding people? Or maybe contact the local Audubon group? Here is a link to the state's website:

Thanks so much Chilly! I sent them to a local birder. I'll let you know what I get back.

Well, no responses from the local birder, so I will close this thread. Thanks for all your help, Chilly!
