Is this Clasping Coneflowers?

Cleburne, TX(Zone 8a)

A year ago, on one of our trips to MD Anderson in Houston, stopped on the side of the road to pick dried seed for these wildflowers. When they started coming up this spring, I only vaguely remembered spreading the seed and was tempted to pull them up because the foliage was not very attractive. Glad I didn't because the blooms have put on quite a show.

Yes, though we called them Mexican Hats when growing up.

They do reseed freely. : )

You can pluck them off with about a 6" tail, make a circle out of the stem and shoot the flower top off, too. We did this as kids....

hahaha Stephanie, sounds like fun, NOT telling my grandson. I have some of these. Bee fodder is my yard...

I'm also not telling what our other name for these flowers was. LOL

Stephanie Stephanie, now you surely have to tell us!!!

No. It's not politically correct. Just remember that I was raised in the 70s on the heels of racial unrest.

I remember Stephanie. Naughty!! Gymgirl, you reading this?!

It amazes me now how that was such a common name for them. I would never use it today.
