Help with umbrella palms

Palm Bay, FL

I've just received two Cyperus alternifolius (umbrella palms) that have been growing in water for some time. Actually, they took over a medium/large Rubbermaid container. I was thinking of putting them in plastic pots, inside pond plant baskets filled with soil/potting mix, and keeping the water level where it was previously (about 2" up the stalks). But, as I like to read about things before doing them, I have found many different ways of growing this type of plant. Some say stick them in the ground, put them in a bog, place them in a pond. I'm so confused!
I do know they have high water needs, and like the pH a little on the acidic side.
Does anyone have any recommendations on how I should proceed?
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Julie
