I'm new to gardening and am currently planting my perennial garden in the Midwest. It is mostly flowers and a couple of shrubs. I like to have reference materials for things I am learning that I can keep and write notes in, etc.
What are the one or two books I should purchase for this purpose?

I've used the Sunset Gardening books for decades. They are usually reliable.
